Today marked the 3rd year that Richland County schools have participated in National Walk to School Day!
What is Walk to School Day and why is it important?
- Walk to School Day is an International Event that gets kids and adults walking (or biking) to schools across the country and world!
- Walking to school adds needed minutes of physical activity to kids ( and adults) days
- Being active before school prepares kids brain to be ready to learn when they get in the classroom
- Walking to school raises awareness of non-motorized transportation and can bring up issues about street design and safety
In Richland County Walk to School Day is organized by Richland County Public Health in partnership with Richland School District Elementary Schools and St. Mary’s School. Promoting physical activity is one of the main focuses of Public Health’s Richland FIT initiative which aims to make Richland County a healthier place to live, work, and play!
Thanks to parents, teachers and volunteers who help to make our walking school buses safe and successful! Please share any picture taken from the day on the Richland FIT Facebook page.
